Primary areas for potential research supervision are machine learning and statistics, which includes both methodology and the application to a variety of topcis. Potential PhD students are welcome to send me an email with their CV and a research proposal. This also covers research using these methods in fields other than the ones covered by my own research, provided the second supervisor acts as a domain expert for the respective area of application.
I’m also open to the supervision of students with a background in different numerate disciplines such as physics and computer science who are looking to change fields, as well as joint supervisions with other schools at the University of Edinburgh for interdisciplinary research. In addition, I’m available as a mentor for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship applications.
I’m unlikely to answer inquiries for supervision written using LLMs or lacking a research proposal.
For undergraduate summer projects, see the Domain-Driven Machine Learning Lab’s homepage.
